My students need to have access to incredible literature including 2015 Mark Twain Award Nominees Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, Jinx, and Counting by 7s.
Remember waiting on the "hold" list for the most coveted titles in your school or public library? Students, even reluctant readers, can be drawn into the world of literature if enough enthusiasm surrounds books. The 2015 Mark Twain Nominees are hot ticket items as soon as the school year begins.
Our classroom has a variety of diverse learners.
Our school services students throughout the county in our area. We are a unique building housing all 5-6 graders in the district. The size of our building leaves resources stretched at times. Students rarely get the opportunity to have their "very own" resource such as the award nominee books I am requesting. These books are rarely available at the library due to high demand, and some wait weeks before they are able to actually have access to them. Having the ability to have access to these high demand, precious books would be just what my readers need to stay motivated and get others excited about what they are reading. This would help with their goal setting in reading that helps with personal growth and intrinsic motivation throughout the year.
My Project
My students need to have access to incredible literature including 2015 Mark Twain Award Nominees Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library, Jinx, and Counting by 7s. My students will be using these books to continue their growth as readers, striving for at least one year's growth as readers. These titles reach a variety of readers throughout genres, as well as reading levels. Since these titles are in high demand, it will help with personal goal setting, as well as cooperative learning when they discuss these titles and make recommendations for their classmates.
These books will make my readers so happy and proud to have them in our classroom library.
They will continue to be motivated to read more of these titles since they will have them in the classroom. They can push themselves as readers to meet the challenge of reading all 12! Goal setting will be a conversation that is ongoing throughout the year, and these books will greatly assist them in reaching these goals.
