Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I have an amazing class of 31 sixth-graders. They are very sweet, focused, friendly, hard-working students. Although many of them have attended our school since they were in kindergarten, there are quite a few of them who have joined throughout the years. They come from a variety of different socioeconomic backgrounds with many who receive free or reduced-price lunch. Daily attendance is average.
I can tell my students absolutely love to learn because they listen with interest, engage with determination, participate with excitement, and collaborate with openness.
Within our very small school, these students are learning and growing and thriving. They have set high expectations for themselves and their classmates.
My Project
This year I am joining the masses and attempting flexible seating for my students. I have been wanting this for my students for a while now, but the materials take time to accumulate. Although I have 6th-grade students, I know that when they walk into their classroom on the first day of school, they are going to be so excited.
These floor chairs and pillows will allow them to sit on the carpet and be a little more comfortable, as opposed to just sitting on the carpet with no support.
These materials make me so excited for the students to finally be given the opportunities to have choice in their seating.
