Increasing Student Connections and Engagement!

Help me give my students standing white boards to enhance their ability to communicate collaborative group work and individual mini white boards to to communicate multiple times in a class period increasing their learning points of access.

My Project

I have used and capitalized on the benefits of student collaboration throughout my social studies teaching career, but I have found that the long term effects of the pandemic have made student collaboration a daily necessity to enhance social skills development and to support students' emotional and mental health needs. Students need more opportunities to connect with each other and learn from each other than ever. When they do, I almost always see students smiling and hear some laughter. I have redesigned learning activities to allow for student collaboration to be a substantial part of every class and I have arranged student desks in pods of 4 or 5 so students can look directly at each other to optimize their chances of communicating and connecting to each other. Presently, student collaborative groups present their historical analysis, inquiry findings, and their generated questions to the whole class. Often I will ask their classmates to offer feedback (agree/disagree, etc.) by actively doing a thumbs up, thumbs in the middle, or thumbs down signal. The materials I am requesting will support students' social and emotional health by supporting student collaboration in a more fun and more active way. With these materials, students can communicate and present their work with the larger white boards (1 large white board per student desk pod of 4 to 5 students) and classmates can provide succinct feedback writing on/displaying their feedback with the individual smaller white boards. High school students typically have adult size bodies, but they are still kids who need to have fun! The materials I am requesting for my students will promote their social and emotional growth, and ultimately, their mental health. The best part is I can use them with my future students for years to come. Thank you kindly for your consideration.
