Mrs. H. from VA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need tablets with covers to use in small groups so that they increase their reading levels.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are special in many ways, but mainly due to their positive outlook in spite of their life circumstances. Many of my students reside in low-income communities where they are not always fortunate to have access to many of the trending technologies available. My students work hard while facing conditions that are beyond their control and often come to school with attitudes of academic excellence.
Technology use in reading is a great way to increase student motivation and attitudes towards literacy.
Currently, my school is located within a housing development in which the majority of the students live. Overall, my school has high standards for all students as teachers work to create positive productive citizens. Many teachers take on roles beyond daily teachers; as they provide counseling and daily support to all students.
Donations to this project will make a difference with my students' learning by allowing them the opportunity to physically interact with technology by reading e-books, listening to interactive books, playing interactive reading games that increase reading skills, and comprehension; as well as, increasing high-frequency and sight words knowledge.
These tablets will improve student lives for the better by increasing learning through the use of online educational activities that can reinforce concepts taught in class.
Some of the apps includes; Kids ABC: Teaches forming and identifying letters to children; iStoryBooks: Kids ages 2-8 can read their own books on dinosaurs, animals, fruits and vegetables, and more, or let narrator Maya read to them as they follow along; Learning Letters for Kids: This straightforward app for teaching kids the alphabet is a breath of fresh air, no permissions are required from the developer to function; and PlayTales is an application that provides different kinds of books for your children who are just starting out or for those who are already avid readers. It is very easy to choose the books from the most traditional and popular stories such as the Ugly Duckling.
