My adorable young students with and without disabilities often come into my integrated preschool program as soon as they turn three years old.
They come with a wide range of ability levels, and this project is created for students with the most significant disabilities; who are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and need activities at their level to increase their engagement and ability to sit and attend.
Many of these students are in a school setting for the first time. The ultimate goal of this integrated program is for students to be ready for full inclusion when they reach kindergarten age. Although the degree of support differs, most leave the program reaching this goal.
My Project
This project is for learning games and activities that will hold the interest of students with significant learning challenges. When they join the classroom as they turn three, learning to sit and attend to an activity for even a few seconds is difficult for them.
These engaging and interactive cause and effect and multi-sensory toys will hold the students' interest so they will be motivated to sit and attend to activities for increasingly longer periods of time.
This is a necessary skill for learning. Students learn to sit, wait, and make and increase eye contact and attention. With your help, these materials will help me to make this goal possible for my students!
