Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom is filled with tons of energy and excitement about financial literacy and engineering. I've committed to teaching my boys about financial literacy and engineering weekly. Science innovation is the train to success I want my boys to be on.
Currently, I have 83 boys who I teach ELA to at an all boys middle school.
My school is filled with lots energy, and when channeled in the proper manner, our students create and achieve great things. The boys love to learn about new things and want to be pushed academically and socially to achieve their best. After presenting the financial literacy curriculum to the boys, they agreed to exchange their recess once a week to complete the lessons. In return, the boys wanted to complete an engineering project, so they're designing sneakers. We decided to use the money earned from financial literacy class on this project and other items.
My Project
The materials will be used to promote financial literacy and their sneaker project. We have some of the materials to develop the prototypes, but we need a few more items such as the sandpaper, bean bag pellets, Styrofoam blocks, and rubber tubing. Our principal is stepping back into the classroom to help our boys with this project. Financial literacy books and piggy banks will be used to show students how we save money over time to reach a goal. After we decide on an item or event (party), students will voluntarily be able to bring in change to fill up our banks. All contents will go towards our classroom item or event. The printer will be used to print color copies, documents, sketches and other items as needed. We are in need of a few items, so we're using some the PwC to assist all content areas.
This project will improve my classroom by helping students tap into their creative abilities and hopefully get them fully committed to science and engineering.
We want our students to learn how to make sound, beneficial financial decisions so they have productive financial lives in the future. They will also know that it's important to take some of what you've earned and give it to others.
