My Students

We are a rural community in Southern Idaho in one of the lowest funded districts in the state. Many of my students live on farms or help out on farms. We have the maximum allowed number of students in each classroom and are rapidly growing. Our community has very little industry or large business to enhance our tax base for levies/bonds. Our district relies on homeowners to fund through taxes.

Our school is the fifth elementary school in the Kuna School District.

We are a K-6th school with two special ed departments, one being Extended Resource. Many of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

In the past years when it comes time to focus on a task my students have always asked to move around the room, this started me thinking that I need a new approach to work time. Through researching I came across an approach called flexible seating. Through flexible seating students move around the room to find the spot they work best in. However to do this the look of the traditional classroom needs to change. My students will use the exercise ball chairs to comfortably work around the room. This will increase their engagement and completion of work in a learning space best for them.
