My students need opportunities to use their imagination and construct the good 'ole fashioned way with magnetic block tiles, building sticks, and building blocks! Play is a form of brain development and research shows that even play is a vital instrument in the learning process.
I recently moved to South Dakota and had the opportunity to step into a classroom that was full of potential. Lots of open walls and blank space to work with. Our community has a diverse population. Our students have faced several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite their challenges, it is my responsibility to provide them with the warmth and love they deserve, as well as a well-rounded education.
Each student is unique and deserves the opportunity to be treated that way!
The minute these kids walk into my room, they know they are in a safe learning place. Many of these students do not have the life experiences that most of us would call "typical." Therefore, the experiences we provide for them in the classroom is of utmost importance.
My Project
Children are our future! We need to help the develop and grow in ways that will be productive for our future society. One way to help them is through the development of their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills. This project would allow my students to access their brain development in ways we typically are not teaching in school.I am super excited to provide my students with an educational way to "play" in school with using the magnetic blocks, building blocks and Suspend game to hone in on their imagination. As students are working together, they will be developing their social skills, analyzing strategies as well as utilizing creative thinking. Today it’s more important than ever for our youth to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to solve tough problems, gather and evaluate evidence, and make sense of information. These are the types of skills that students learn by studying science, technology, engineering, and math—subjects collectively known as STEM.
As a child grows and develops, there are necessary steps that need to take place as they are learning.
This project could help satisfy students' STEM skills while creating, building and using their imagination. I look forward to sharing this opportunity with my students and future students.
