Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 3rd grade in a small town school in northwest Washington. Our school population is very diverse, we have a wonderful mix of different cultures. Many of our working class families fall at the poverty level. Even though many come from limited means, staff and families work as a team to provide positive learning experiences for all our students.

I find that students are "hooked" into learning best when they are reading and writing about things they care about. In my class, I want to engage my students by connecting real world events into meaningful literary experiences. In the past, I have used money from my school budget to purchase these magazines; due to cut backs, I am not able to purchase them for next year's class.

I need a subscription of the Time for Kids magazine for each student in my 3rd grade class. Having Time for Kids will benefit my students in several ways: 1. The eye-catching photos will engage them right away to read the articles. 2. The timely topics covered will inspire them to make connections and further their learning 3. By taking the magazines home and sharing them with their families, wonderful discussions can occur and comprehension skills will deepen.

Your gift of Time for Kids will provide the much needed nonfiction materials I need to enhance my students' literacy skills.
