Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in East New York, Brooklyn and serves Pre-K to 5th grade. The majority of young learners at our New York City school receive free and reduced lunch. Our first-grade class is made up of 21 goofy, kind, and bright students who come from mostly bilingual homes.
Not only are the students exciting to be around, they are also the most hardworking first graders who act daily as change-makers, bringing a multicultural lens into the classroom.
As their teacher, I strive every day to motivate my students to achieve their highest potential through music and imagination!
My Project
I am currently a first grade teacher. My class is made up of a number of English Language Learners who have limited exposure to English when they leave my classroom.
Recently we received 6 tablets that will allow my students to interact with technology independently for one station a day but we are lacking the headphones to make this possible!
Headphones will provide my students the one-one-one exposure that is tailored to their current reading level and increase their sight word knowledge through a variety of games.
My students are extremely hardworking and eager to learn, and I want to make sure I can support them as best I can. Lastly, I want to encourage their love for reading and these headphones will make that possible. Thank you for all your support!
