I teach kindergarten in a large, PreK-6 school, in Texas. The loving families of my students are struggling in these hard economic times. Many of my students receive free lunch, and all students in the school can receive free breakfast in the cafeteria in the morning.
This year is off to a great start, but some new items can make it even better!
I love to provide innovative opportunities for my students. DonorsChoose.org is a blessing that keeps making my classroom a better place for students to learn and grow!
My Project
My students need a variety of snack choices during our long afternoons. Being the youngest full day students in the school (PreK is half-day) my kindergarten students eat lunch at 10:15 am! That makes for a long afternoon. By 2:30 pm students are hungry for a snack, to be able to push through to the end of the day. Some of the snacks I've selected are kosher and all are nut free due to a student with food allergies. We work hard to be inclusive of all dietary needs in the classroom.
Having pretzels, fruit snacks, crackers, Rice Krispie Treat Minis, cereal, and other great items, we will be able to refuel and continue learning.
My students work hard and they deserve an afternoon snack each day. By donating to this project, it will take the pressure off families having to send snacks and off me, as their teacher, having to request snacks when we run low. The diversity in my classroom includes many families struggling to provide snacks at home. They shouldn't have to worry about providing snacks at school.
