My students are English Language learners that come from diverse backgrounds. All my students immigrate from other countries and are learning English for the first time. They face many barriers and hardships; but always work hard and persevere to find stability for themselves and their families.
I admire their dedication to learning and I'm grateful to have such amazing students!
My Project
It’s important our students are exposed to what it means to be a person of color, especially in the United States. Our students represent all backgrounds, nationalities, cultures, and so should the literature they read in schools.
My colleague and I want to make sure they have access to materials in which they can see themselves, feel recognized, and become inspired to make a change.
These titles will be accessible to all students and teachers and will remain available and a part of our school culture furthermore.
These titles will complement the Future Leaders of Color program that will begin in January.
