This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a group of 23 students in Philadelphia, PA. 11 of us have disabilities ranging from Autism to Specific Learning Disability. Help us to reach our goal so that we can all learn in our new inclusive classroom!
We are a Public Charter School in North Philadelphia, PA.
We are located in a high poverty neighborhood, and are working to close the achievement gap. This year, our students with special needs will be learning in full time inclusion classrooms. These classrooms allow our students to learn with their grade level peers while still receiving supports from their Special Education Teachers. Our students' disabilities include Autism, Specific Learning Disability, Other Health Impairment, and Intellectual Disability. These students need specialized instruction as well as many classroom tools to accommodate the classroom to their needs. With great instruction and the necessary tools, it is going to be a great year full of fun and learning!
My Project
We are requesting a ball chair for each student in the classroom. These chairs are proven to improve concentration, as well as allow our active 7 and 8 year olds to move and increase balance and coordination, all while learning at their tables. Many of our students need other learning tools such as noise canceling headphones for focus, whisper phones for reading to self, and handheld fidgets for those learners that need to keep busy hands occupied.
In our efforts to close the achievement gap, we are focusing on teaching our students with special needs in the best possible setting.
The inclusion model integrates Special Education and Regular Education and allows each student to have access to everything the 2nd grade has to offer. My students need these tools in order to catch up with their grade level peers, as well as learn comfortably in their classroom. Your donation could really make the difference in a child's life.
