My Students

I get to work with children of all ages and multiple intelligences from many backgrounds. Our school, housed in one of the oldest school buildings in the district, is nestled in a wonderfully diverse neighborhood—socioeconomically, racially, and ethnically. The faculty and staff really focus on developing each child's gifts, individually. The students in my classes have individualized education plans to help them achieve goals in literacy, math, and/or social skills. I strive to make my classroom a safe and comfortable space that is ideal for learning!

My Project

The National Early Childhood Inclusion Institute is one of the premier educational opportunities for anyone involved in the care and education of young children with special needs in inclusive settings. Dozens of world-class experts, dozens of groundbreaking sessions, free courses for CEUs—and an enduring impact. For 20 years, the Inclusion Institute has drawn people from across the country and around the globe to Chapel Hill to learn about the latest research findings, models, and resources to guide inclusive policy, professional development and practice; to develop collaborative relationships and cross-agency systems to support early childhood inclusion; and to have the opportunity to meet, learn from and problem solve with peers.

I lead a separate classroom of kindergarten through second grader students with special needs, and exposing these students to the general education classroom is priceless and essential.

Giving my students access to other classrooms and students during longer academic blocks of time needs to be a priority, and this institute will help me to determine ways to incorporate those blocks of time into my students' days.
