My little learners are inquisitive, creative, thoughtful, and fun! They love hands-on, minds-on learning and enjoy being engaged in a multitude of ways! We are scientists, explorers, scholars and friends. It is inspirational to watch these children grow and develop together as a community. It is truly a gift and quite humbling to be able to be part of this special time!
This kindergarten class is not only full of children with mixed academic abilities, but also includes children with special needs, English language learners, and children who need support with social emotional growth.
We have built a classroom community that revolves around acceptance and respect. Our safe and loving classroom environment is very special to us.
Every child has their own unique needs, and as their teacher I strive to be able to meet those needs in various ways! We learn in a variety of ways that include whole group learning, small group learning, 1:1 teacher time, and collaborative learning with peers. Children learn so much from one another.
My Project
Many students do not have access to the use of technology at home. Technology is not used in place of a teacher, but helps enhance learning by allowing students to make learning concepts come alive in a variety of ways. Their literacy skills will be supported by the tablets by engaging in phonics and phonemic awareness concepts, listening to books and writing stories. Their math skills will be supported by exploring with shapes, numbers and measurement by playing games and using a variety of different programs. We will also be doing research on science concepts, such as animals and their habitats!
Not only will these tablets support the students academically, but will also help support their social development by working collaboratively with a peer in research and in developmentally appropriate academic games.
Children will use these tablets as part of their center work, independent work, and in support of small group instruction. The programs the children will be engaged in will meet their unique needs and meet them where they are at academically.
