The students in our school model some great behaviors. We have a Positive Behavior Intervention System that we use to encourage these great behaviors.
Our community is low-income and we are a rural farming area.
As a school, we believe every student can learn at their level and have success. By giving them access they can be successful students at school in their own learning! The students need positive behaviors to be recognized as it is a teaching moment to let them and others know what appropriate behaviors look like.
My Project
Middle school students don't want rewards like stickers or fun little toys for positive behaviors. They actually want school supplies or age appropriate educational games or activities. We have a window display in our school where students can see what kinds of items they could receive for getting their positive behavior slip pulled from the bucket.
Positive Behavior Incentives allow students to choose what they need for school or home to help them learn.
Where as an adult we might think kids don't want pencils, colored pencils, drawing paper, etc. it means the world to kids who don't have a lot of money at home to buy beyond what is needed for class.
