Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom has thirty brilliant, hardworking students. The majority are English Language Learners with Spanish being their native language. They come from low-income homes; the majority of their parents work in agriculture and share an apartment with multiple families. In addition, they live in the east side of the city which is considered the most dangerous.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, our students will start the school year with remote instruction.
Currently, they are using school Chromebooks to carry out their daily assignments.
We meet 5 times a week through Google Meet. I assign academic work through Google Classroom and Seesaw.
My Project
The supplies that I am asking for will be used to reward students for their effort in reading during school hours, as well as reading at home each night! Our students are in third grade and need the support and encouragement to take charge of their independent reading practices.
I have always encouraged reading at their independent level (ZPD) at least 30 minutes for homework.
Having these prizes as incentives will inspire our students to read. I will use these rewards for weekly checks and trimester word count goals! Our students love taking "AR" quizzes on the computer! Therefore, I will use these incentives to reward the students for the word count and percentage they receive from their quizzes!
