Most of my students are English Language Learners (ELL) and come from low-income households. Not being native English speakers makes their school work an extra challenge for them. I want my students to be lifelong learners, passionate, ready to take risks, able to problem-solve and think critically, have integrity and self-respect, and truly enjoy their life and their work.

My Project
In School-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports(PBIS), many schools are seeking ways to reward students in ways that give recognition and attention from peers and adults without costing much money. Incentives are a great way to engage your students and create excitement for your PBIS rewards program. However, coming up with incentive ideas may be a challenging task. My students are always being asked to make good choices, do homework, follow directions, and do well on a variety of tests. I like to find small ways to motivate my students to do their very best. In my classroom, we talk about growth. We talk about improving and how to improve. I want to reward my students with small treasure box items when they show improvement!
Extrinsic motivators help students feel more competent in the classroom, thus enhancing intrinsic motivation.
Extrinsic motivators can be a useful tool. I have asked for a variety of small but motivating toys that my students can choose from when they make a good choice, follow directions and stay on task with homework/classroom assignments, and show growth on assessments! Students will love the mini rewards. Our classroom works hard to do well and giving me that opportunity to reward their behaviors allows them to even do better.
These incentives will be used to reward appropriate behaviors that support the school-wide behavioral expectations.
