This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Title I school. A full 90% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. Our school is located in a low income area. Our students work very hard every day. Our school has a 97% attendance rate which means students rarely miss school. My students are very inquisitive and vocal. Many of my students are very active.
Our school is one of the most diverse schools in Memphis, TN.
Our students speak multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Arabic, Hindu, Amharic and Swahili. My students have a strong sense of community.
My Project
The students in my classroom work best when they are presented with incentive choices to work for as a reward. Some students enjoy a few minutes of free time in the classroom while other students enjoy being able to get on an iPad for a few minutes. Other students enjoy getting candy or a small toy. My students really love being able to have choices for their rewards.
My students need candy to help them have an incentive to complete their work and show positive behaviors.
I have been supplying my classroom with the small toys, candy, stickers and other incentives, but it has been getting very expensive, and I am not always able to get what the students want. We are asking for Blow Pops, Tootsie Rolls and other candy that will help us get through the rest of the school year!
