The students in my third-grade classroom come from many different cultures and backgrounds. Having a diverse classroom also means I have a large group of ESL students. These students walk in the classroom knowing that they're going to try their best to kick up their learning abilities no matter what it takes. I try my very best to have students recognize their talents and success, rather than defining them by their struggles.
Many students in my class come from low-income families, and creating a comfy environment in the classroom is my priority as a teacher.
The more comfortable my students get in the classroom, the more they are fearless and full of energy to learn.
My Project
My students passionately take risks to achieve their learning goals in the classroom every day. Sometimes it is difficult to reward hard work in the classroom without spending much money. However, incentives are great ways to have students who lack encouragement to work a little harder on themselves.
Students look forward to a reward when making positive choices, completing homework, following directions, and performing well in assessments.
As a classroom, we frequently have motivational meetings where students and I gather to talk about growth and being passionate learners. I want to be able to reward any student who shows even the slightest growth in an area of struggle. The flexible pencils, stress balls, and play doh are positive incentives that can be used throughout the learning day when rewarded, especially several students enjoy fidgeting with something in their hands as they listen to learn. Additionally, the other products: bubble wands, sticky hands, bounce balloons, party favors, etc. are positive incentives to take home for students to proudly show off to their parents/guardians. Having a physical object rewarded to show appreciation of student accomplishments, creates a motivational impact on this generation of students.
