Our school is located in South Kansas City and made up of around 325 students, grades kindergarten through 5th grade. Our school and district are very diverse and encompass a low socioeconomic area of Kansas City.
We often have to be creative in finding resources and activities that interest our students and motivate them to come to school and participate in learning.
It's a vital part of teaching to have our students at school every single day so they are able to receive instruction and participate in daily learning routines.
In tracking data we have noticed a trend of success with our students who attend school daily. Their grades, test scores and progress are much higher than that of students whose attendance is scattered. By being at school daily, they are able to establish strong relationships with the peers and teachers that influence their progress.
Our students are highly motivated by a new positive incentive program we have put into place to encourage daily attendance and behavior within the school.
We have been using this program to have student earn tickets for being on time, daily attendance and behavior.
These materials are items that students have shown interest in and motivate them to want to earn the tickets for meeting our building goals. Our students will be excited to see the items and want to make progress towards behavior daily to earn tickets. We strongly believe this store will help the success of our building with attendance and behavior.
