As an ESOL teacher in a diverse school community, I service over 60 kindergarten and first grade students who speak Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Jamaican Creole, Romanian, Mandarin, French and Krio. ESOL students are often faced with many challenges, however, these scholars are unique individuals who are eager to learn and never give up.
What I admire the most is their ambition, creativity, and hard work!
These attributes are what drives them forward and helps make them successful as they acquire language.
My Project
This project has a focus on rewarding and motivating my young scholars with incentives, such as stickers, snacks, bracelets and pencils throughout their language proficiency assessments. I want to encourage my students to do their best as they complete the language proficiency assessments by providing them with something to show them their efforts have not gone unnoticed.
My young language learners work hard every day and would love a little extra encouragement during their assessments!
Providing students with the incentives will not only encourage them to do their best but also give them a boost of confidence while encouraging good attendance. The young students take language assessments over multiple days! Let's provide the students with some positive incentives to do their best.
