This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Despite the hardships and other adversities, Our students come to school eager to learn, grow socially, and develop new personal and educational relationships. As a Title I school, our students are sometimes not afforded the opportunity to experience other types of music outside of the school day.
To believe in a child is to open all doors of opportunity.
We continue to push our students to grow and achieve at the next level each and everyday. We support the ambitions of our students and encourage them to try new things. Music has the power to inspire our students and the community around them.
My Project
These tuners will make a difference in the students' learning by providing them with the opportunity to learn how to tune their guitars and ukuleles themselves. As the students learn the acronyms for the proper guitar and ukulele tuning, they will be able to enter the classroom, get their instruments, and tune them with minimal teacher intervention. As they practice this skill, they will become more responsible for their learning as well as prepare their ears and eyes for how to use a tuner to tune other wind instruments when the continue their music studies in middle school, high school, college, and their post-graduate lives. The additional strings will help replenish old, worn out strings on our classroom instruments and will allow students to fully experience their music education with guitars.
