Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students love nature and being in it when they have the chance. Our lessons about the Universe, earth and it's many living things spark so much interest and focus whatever the subject matter. Our school is a Title I school located downtown. Most of our students do not have a lot of opportunity during the school year to explore the outdoors, except for on our lovely, garden filled campus.

Having a butterfly habitat in our classroom will bring the outdoors inside and help to teach my students about life cycles and the beauty of nature.

We will be making observations as these creatures transform and writing them in our journals. We will also make our own predictions and see if they are correct.

The many nature related books that we will receive will contribute to our Science library. Each quarter of the school year we choose a different area of study and we will use these books for research, writing ideas and evidence leading up to our class presentations and projects. Students will work in groups or independently to learn about their chosen subject.

These materials will support my student's independent learning and joy of discovering how important it is for us to protect and respect all living things on our earth.
