Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is full of 5 year old students who are creative, and inquisitive, who enjoy moving, they love to exploring, and love positive attention.
Despite the many challenges my kindergarten students face, as a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences in the classroom.
Some of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.
By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
One of the biggest goals in Kindergarten is to create independent students. I am asking for a set of two tables and two low chairs to start training students to collaborate effectively and practice what an independent group looks like.
This will be an station that every couple of students will take a turn to work on their writing, mathematics, and science projects.
We will assign a calendar to take turns on the set of students at different times of the day, this will be a great emphasis in correcting what collaboration looks like and how we can help each other complete our projects.
