My students need 25 copies of both Time for Kids and Weekly Reader News. They live in a high poverty area and many of them do not have enough resources for school much less have for extra reading materials. It would be great if we could uses these resources to enhance our current events discussions. This would also be a great opportunity to broaden their imaginations to what our country and world has to offer. I currently have 20 students, and more keep coming into our school everyday. We would use these during our Social Studies/Science time. Thank you in advance!
I have a great energetic class that is always ready to learn more! I teach 5th grade in a high poverty school. My students are in need of many things and providing them with the best education is my main goal. My students are always eager to learn new things and are very curious about things that happen in our world every day.
My students have always shown a great interest in social studies and science topics. These are their best subjects! As a first year teacher, it is hard for me to provide them with these materials from my own money. I choose to buy classroom materials such as paper and pencils because we have a higher need for these on a day to day basis. I noticed my students' interests were very high when we spoke about the electoral candidates and the electoral process in November. They really enjoyed being a part of the current issues that grown ups have to deal with during elections. I think more resources would be a great addition to our classroom discussions and their education.
I chose these two magazines because they are filled with a lot of current events and great information that my students would love to hear about. They love facts and they love learning new things! This will greatly benefit them because they are in tune with the current events going on in the world and they are gaining valuable knowledge for their everyday lives.

You will make a difference in their lives and give them another great reason for getting out of bed every morning and coming to school to learn new exciting things every day.
