This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
About My Students
My students are helpful and super friendly. They do not meet a stranger anywhere they go. It is their excitement that compels me to do what I can to help them reach their goals.
As a whole, they are a great group of kids that are eager to learn and excited about learning. I love being around them and they keep me smiling all day long. So, I am not surprised that a discussion led to the zeal they had to complete this project.
This project will prepare my students in many ways. They will develop skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork. The idea for a project stemmed from a conversation in class to a meeting that led to the progression of this project. As a unit, the field eventers are typically away from the rest of the team for most of the day. That means they are far away from the basic supplies and shelter from the sun.
Seeing the kids work together to map out a plan for essential equipment and really discuss and listen to one another has been truly immeasurable.
In Their Own Words
The goal we want to accomplish is to have equipment so we don't have to borrow from other teams. We want a be able to be able to move our things around more easily and have a place for us to stay out of the sun for a little bit when it is hot.
I will make the most of the leadership opportunity by seeing that we complete all of the required steps. I helped with setting up a meeting and keeping track of what materials we needed the most. Doing this project makes me feel like I could be captain of our team.
This project is important to me because I know how badly we need the equipment. With field events, we are in the same area for hours but the sprinters are able to do an event and go back to camp. When it is hot most of us get burned bad badly.
