Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The courage our students show in facing daily challenges of life here in the US, in an effort to forge a hopeful future for themselves and their families, is nothing short of inspiring. Our students are recently-arrived immigrants and refugees, coming from more than 30 nations and speaking over 35 languages. They come to us with all kinds of imaginable and entirely unimaginable experiences and needs. They are resilient, fun, caring, and deserving of everything that we can creatively muster to provide for them.
My Project
My classroom needs a Chromebook computer to which students will have reliable access. We all know how well how technology makes learning engaging and relevant for students, while also helping them learn critical technology skills.
Students have always surprised me with the innovative ways in which they can create using technology.
I can't wait to see what they come up with. Meanwhile, the students will be able to use online applications to practice their newly acquired English, practice English phonics and fluency, read, research, and create presentations. They will be able to use Google classroom to collaborate with their classmates on cooperative group projects and complete written assignments. They will be able to edit, and revise their written pieces based on teacher and peer feedback through Google classroom. These skills will prepare them to succeed in high school, college, and career.
