My Students

SAVE OUR PROGRAM! Newly hired Apparel teacher let go due to school district budget cuts. Now students are left stranded if the program doesn't continue. That is my goal as the Fashion teacher, to continue and expand the program for the benefit of our students with the supplies requested. THANKS!!

Our students, are bright, enthusiastic, and eager.

Many come from impoverished homes and communities in our city of North Carolina. We have about 1800 kids from a diverse population, Black, Asian, Hispanic, White, and American Indian. 70% of our students are Black, and 66% of our entire population is on Free or Reduced Lunch. Four years ago our school was threatened to be closed because of poor test scores. With a little motivation and determination on behalf of teachers and students, test scores have doubled. This shows that given the opportunity our students will prove that they can do anything. The Fashion Club will be a new addition to the school but a good fit for those students that are ready to move to the next level in Apparel Development after having the former teacher's class.

My Project

I am requesting 3 fashion related items; Fashion Careers DVD, Successful Sewing teacher guide, and Fashion Design software. Students will be able to gain a better understanding of the vast number of careers in the fashion industry with the information provided on the DVD. This DVD will be used in both class and club instruction. The Successful Sewing teacher guide will help me as the teacher improve my skills to effectively help the students. The Fashion Design software is very vital to the overall goal. Students in the Fashion course and mostly the students in the Fashion club will use the software to create, design, and construct their own apparel items to be promoted through Marketing efforts. The students' items will be featured in a fashion show, displayed in a window display and students will gain recognition throughout the school for their work and efforts.

My project is important to move forward a newly added Apparel program that lost it's teacher to budget cuts.

We have new sewing machines and sewing equipment, but no teacher. We have new apparel and clothing books, but no teacher. We have students that have learned to sew and students wanting to learn to sew, but no teacher. I feel it is important for me to pick up the lost pieces and run with it so that all that was started this past year won't be in vain. Thank you for considering my project.
