I have the honor of unlocking understandings for 32 three- and four-year-old learners who live in Las Vegas, NV. These little people fill me with more joy than anyone can imagine; I have the best profession in the world. Many of my learners have developmental delays and exhibit delays in the following learning domains: cognitive, language, gross motor, fine motor, social-emotional, and self-help. I also share my classroom with same-age peers who establish appropriate models for the other young ones in my charge. Together we celebrate each other's growth and challenge one another to reach our next developmental milestones.
I am harnessed with the responsibility to get these young ones prepared for the eventual rigor of kindergarten.
I do this by engaging them in child-directed activities utilizing a variety of materials and within a myriad of settings. It is no small task, but it is one which I have a passion for as I strive each night to lay my head down on my pillow, knowing that I have made a difference in their lives and in the lives of their families!
My Project
Our school is home to eight kindergarten classes and four pre-k classes. These 12 classrooms share their outdoor space and create creative, dynamic learning spaces where laughter ebbs and creativity flows. While not many static elements fill their expansive space, the area has ample room for additional elements. First and foremost, the children would love to have tables where they can sit and picnic together or paint while outside.
While alongside friends and across from classmates, students can engage in face to face interactions while benefiting from the wonder of the great outdoors without the fear of ruining carpet or staining tables.
Messes will be made and food shared as they have meals or gooey fun with art projects or science experiments.
