Thirty years ago, Apple was just a fruit. Fifteen years ago, Google was just a funny word. Did you know that over half of the jobs that current pre-kindergarten students will hold when they graduate high school in 2031 don't even exist yet?
I work as the computer lab teacher in a great, diverse, and effective school.
Here, we have a mix of students who live locally, within walking distance, and many others who travel by school bus, city bus, and private van service to come to our school daily.
We have general education classes, special education services, and students who have been identified as gifted and talented. Our students were born in this country or overseas. I teach every one of these boys and girls from pre-kindergarten through 5th grade on a weekly basis.
My Project
There are times when students are working independently on a laptop or tablet and want to tune out the world. Teachers in our school allow the students to listen to music softly in the background to help them concentrate when writing or doing other online tasks. In order to do this, we request and encourage them to bring their own ear buds, but, alas, it goes in one ear and out the other.
Having many small and inexpensive pairs of ear buds on hand will allow students to have them to use, and we can even let them keep them in thier own desks, so that they always have them.
