Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a middle school music teacher in an inner-city school, and I teach students from 6th to 8th grade. Most of my students come from a low socioeconomic background in an area infected with gangs and drugs. Many of my students, most poor, tell me that music class is the reason they stay in school.
I have been working over the past two years to get working instruments for my school.
I have been making progress, but I am still a long way away from having all of my students on working instruments. We are in need of violin strings. Currently, I have students with bad sounding violin strings, and this makes it difficult when tuning the instrument.
My Project
Help me put working violins in the hands of every student with the dream to make music! Giving a child the responsibility of maintaining and practicing on their own violin not only allows them to improve their technique and share their instrument with friends and family outside of school, it tells them that are trusted, responsible, and capable of determining their success.
I want to give my students the best musical experience possible, and the addition of good working violin strings and rosin will make the violin section sound great.
It will get another inner city student making music and staying away from gangs.
