Last school year, 2019-2020, our staff identified 3,635 homeless students. This is 42% of our district! All of our students automatically qualify for free or reduced-price lunch due to the economic status of our community. Many of our parents are employed as field workers, where paychecks can be small or sporadic, especially in winter when there is not much work. More than half of my class speaks English as their second language, and some have special needs. With that being said, they all love to come to school and want to learn. They deserve all the resources we can give to help them to be successful in school.
My students work hard all year round and many are in desperate need of crucial items ranging from clothes, shorts, jackets. Many are too proud to come and ask for assistance, however, I would like to make it more comfortable and inviting for my students to come and ask for help. Many of these students live in a homeless shelter and might own only one pair of pants and one shirt. I would like to change that.
I not only want to clothe my kids, but I also want to clothe them in shirts and pants that are comparable to the latest trends and fashions that their fellow students are wearing.
This project helps clothe my students, while still allowing them to keep their pride, self-esteem, and respectability intact. My students work extremely hard, and the last thing that they need is to worry about being teased that they wear the same pants every day. It is through your donations that I'm able to do these things. Donations such as yours, allow me to continue providing this wonderful service to my students. Your donation will help these boys feel that they are no different from the other boys in the classroom. Yes, they might live in a car or a hotel room but they are still children trying to do their best. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. With sincere gratitude for all your support.
