Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach kindergarten at a Title I school. My students come from homes where they are living below the poverty level. The majority are on free or reduced lunch. My students enter the classroom with an enthusiasm for learning. My goal, as a teacher, is to feed their curious minds, especially in math and science using STEAM activities and projects. There are many resources online that offer STEAM applications that will enable my students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers in these areas.
I enjoy watching them blossom as the school year progresses.
My students are capable of learning more but at times, the lack of resources holds them back. I hope to be able to acquire the resources needed to fulfill their learning needs.
My Project
I teach in Miami where many students that are displaced by Hurricane Maria are fleeing to. These students are coming from Cuba and Puerto Rico and do not speak the English language. We are in great need of copy paper. I have access to an array of enrichment activities for phonics, vocabulary and writing skills. The displaced students have lost valuable teaching time and it is our duty to enrich their learning. The copy paper will come in handy to print all the resources available to us.
It is vital that we comfort our students displaced by Hurricane Maria and make them feel at home.
Having the copy paper available will allow us to print the activities that will assist them learn the English language.
