We are a public high school with a diverse student body that is growing with each school year. Our students are 9th through 12th grade (ages 14 to 18). We have over 3,000 students, including kids with special needs as well as mentally and physically challenged students. This is the only high school in our town, and we offer a full range of classes and electives. In order to maintain a rich of curriculum with authentic materials for our students, we seek donations from DonorsChoose.org to help supplement our resources.
As an art teacher, I firmly believe that academic learning is important in all school subjects. Hands-on projects and art-making art vital to the art curriculum, however, there is always room for encouraging English language skills through vocabulary, note-taking, and reflective writing. We use notebooks to capture this part of the curriculum.
Some of my students cannot afford to buy a notebook for class.
I am hoping to provide as many notebooks as I can to students that cannot provide one for themselves. I don't want students to be embarrassed by their circumstances or worried that they will not be prepared for class. This kind of stress can cause students to miss classes and fall behind.
