We are fortunate to be a part of a changing world, whose ideals are shifting from paper and pencil, towards technology based learning. Our world is becoming more advanced technologically and in order to take the next step into the future of learning, our class would love to have an I-Pad.
I have an amazing second grade class, full of bright individuals who are always pushing themselves to be better and do better.
They are all very fluent users of many different forms of technology, and are extremely excited when we are using anything that requires technology. I hear many stories about how they are using their technology, such as i phones, and ipads, outside of school, and it only seems natural that we begin to introduce such objects into their school environment. They are all curious, and adventurous learners ready to try "the next big thing". They would love to be able to use technology in the classroom to do things such as construct, analyze, research, collaborate, and share among many other possibilities.
My Project
Having an iPad in our class will not only be a fun experience, but it can provide an important resource for all subjects of learning. I can picture our class using an iPad for language manipulation; spelling, grammar, or writing. They would be able to read and interact with stories to improve fluency, accuracy, comprehension, and vocabulary. In Science and Social Studies they would be able to use the iPad for research and to present or share projects that correspond with the units and standards we cover. In math an iPad can be used to practice basic skills and reinforce mathematical ideas through interactive sites and games.
No two students are identical, so having an iPad will help remediate and enrich students on different levels. Students who may struggle with the normal paper and pencil activities, will excel when they have the opportunity to view ideas from a different perspective. Other students who are high achievers will be able to delve further into a subjects.

We all want to be a step ahead. Having technology readily available would allow my kids to follow the flow of the rest of the world.
