Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low income, high poverty school district. Many of my students come from households where English is not the primary spoken language. However, my students have a strong desire to learn, to progress, and to overcome the many hurdles that impede them from achieving their full potential.
As a self-contained special education classroom teacher, I would love to provide essential learning tools in my classroom to help my students and prepare them for academic work.
They all love to be helpful and thankful and enjoy learning by doing.
However, they struggle with many challenges that impact their progress in school and their ability to develop strong and meaningful relationships with others.
Despite their disabilities and struggles in the classroom, they want to learn, want to feel involved, and want to be successful in life.
All we need is to provide them with the right tools, support, and confidence so that they can grow and be able to achieve success.
My Project
My students with special needs will benefit from a classroom laminator to protect and save their classroom projects. Our students are rough on our supplies. Used regularly, non-laminated items do not last more than a week. A laminator would help to save important materials such as our hall passes, behavior management chart, class job charts, and weather calendars.
Speaking of those hall passes, bathroom passes, anchor charts, and nurse passes, laminating them also means that we can wipe them down.
With the classroom laminator, I can create beneficial learning activities for my students to use during reading and math centers. The lamination will keep the activities safe and secure so they can be used for several years. I teach at a public school, so resources and funds are really limited, and I need to stretch out what I do have.
