Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students from my school come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The majority of them are 2-3 grade levels behind in reading, writing, and mathematics and have struggled to catch up since middle school.
They come to my school hoping to become lawyers so that they can make a difference in the world around them.
In essence, they want to become contributing members of society, not just functioning ones. They want to learn and just need a little more support to make them better contenders in a competitive world.
My Project
Miss, do you have tissues? Miss, I need hanitizer. Miss, do you have wipes to clean the desk? Miss, messed up my paper, can you print another copy for me? Miss, it is so hot in here, don't you have a fan?
My students are always in need of something and my supply cannot keep up with their demands.
Having these basic supplies will make sitting in class much easier, for them and for me. Please help me supply my students with hand sanitizer, tissues, cleaning wipes, a fan, and toner for the classroom printer.
Let learning be their focus rather than trying to fulfill their basic needs. I want to help students see themselves as valuable members of society who feel good about themselves.
