My students need a class set of a favorite Christmas story, Family Under the Bridge, to read as a class activity during the holiday.

My Students

I teach fifth grade English Language Arts to 59 wonderful fifth-grade students. Each class is diverse socio-economically, and each has a range of needs and abilities. Our entire school district receives free breakfast and lunch through a federal grant.

There are so many opportunities to learn from literature in the classroom.

Our students love this book because it is unique and unlike any other book that they have read. It becomes a favorite book of theirs that they will remember far into the future.

My Project

This is a very unique, heart-warming Christmas story that I have read with my students for 17 years. The books are paperback, and the books that I have now are missing the covers, pages are missing, and I have taped them repeatedly.

It would be wonderful to have a new class set so that each student has a copy to use for the next Christmas season.

Since my students are in fifth grade, they either read the books independently, with partners, and sometimes we read chapters as a whole group and then we discuss the story. It is difficult to have to share the books because the students have independent work to do which involves using the book.

We would be very grateful to have a new class set.
