My students need learning materials printed out from the Alternate curriculum in full color, to hold their interest. A printer, ink, and paper will allow me to deliver lessons from the Alternate Curriculum with fidelity.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Elementary school is a small Title 1 school in California. We serve a large immigrant community, and most of our families have limited means. They simply are not able to donate the extra funds found in more affluent schools. My class is one of three special education classrooms serving children with intellectual disabilities and autism.
My students use an alternate curriculum to access core content.
It provides students with special supports to be successful. My students are unable to use the core curriculum due to the severity of their developmental disabilities, but they are eager to learn.
My Project
My students use the Alternate Curriculum to move toward Core Standards. This curriculum is found entirely online. While some features are interactive, most materials need to be printed and assembled. Leveled reading books, library books, worksheets, games, and manipulatives all must be printed out. There is a new set to print out each month, requiring approximately $200 worth of ink and paper.
Our computer network was recently updated for increased security.
When this occurred, I was not able to print wirelessly anymore, making an enormous job awkward and time-consuming. I need a printer which can be hooked up directly to the network, allowing me to print wirelessly from my computer again. My current printer does not have the required port needed to do this. Thus I am required to toggle back and forth between the internet and the printer to print needed materials or I need to hook up directly to the printer (something I cannot do with my iPad). This doubles the amount of time it takes to do the job!
These materials were designed to be printed out in color to make them more engaging. This takes a lot of ink! I have been purchasing ink and paper out of pocket. It has been a real burden for me to shoulder.
Ink and paper will cut down on my out of pocket costs, while the new printer will allow me to print out the needed materials wirelessly from both my computer and my iPad. All of this will allow me to teach curricular content with fidelity and give my students engaging materials with which to learn.
