Help me give my students a parachute, hoops, a juggling set and other active play equipment to help them be successful in their goal of participating in our first ever Special Olympics young athletes competition by improving their gross motor skills.
If you step into our Life Skills room, you won’t hear our kids use the word "can't." I teach in a special needs class of 8 students. My school is such a loving environment and our students come from diverse backgrounds but act as one big family.
Our students' abilities range.
Some have average gross motor skills and some have low gross motor skills. As a class, we've decided to participate in the Special Olympics Young Athletes program. This active play equipment will help our students develop stronger gross motor skills and be proud of their accomplishments.
My Project
Our children have varying abilities, so we wanted to focus on the abilities that they could improve. For our students in wheelchairs and with grasping problems, we chose a bowling ramp, so they can participate and excel with their classmates in this activity. For our children who have gross motor delays and balance disorders, we have chosen bean bags and a balance beam to improve abilities.
Each of the items we have chosen will aid our students in preparing for our first ever Special Olympics Young Athletes competition in Lebanon, Missouri.
This collection of active play equipment will help prepare them to continue their efforts with the Special Olympics as they get older.
