Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to move and they love PE and recess! They love soccer and basketball more than any of the other sports. They love to practice their basketball skills to try and be the next LeBron James or Steph Curry. We have a portable goal, but it is very beat up, and in terrible shape.
Our students love to play basketball and practice the skills we teach them in PE so they can be like Steph Curry, or LeBron.
Our students are such a joy to be around and they are very competitive when it comes to games or sports. We love to see them getting their heart rate up and competing against one another for fun and enjoyment. Our students range from third to fifth graders and they love to be active. They love to compete against each other no matter what the game or sport is.
My Project
We have a very beat up portable basketball goal outside. Our students make the best of it, but the rim is bent, the net is missing, and it falls down on top of them when it gets too windy. We are requesting a permanent in-ground basketball goal that the students can use to enrich their PE skills and also stay active and safe at recess. We hope that the skills they learn in PE will transfer outside to recess and they can enjoy basketball even more. Some of them even like to come up to school on the weekends and shoot hoops. We would love to do some of our basketball lessons outside when it is nice weather, but we do not have the resources to do so. We are requesting this goal to give the students an opportunity to be active and not just stand around during PE, or recess.
Most of our students do not own a basketball goal at their own home.
This goal would help them have a place in the neighborhood to come shoot hoops on the weekend and practice the skills they are learning in physical education class. The more they can practice and play on their own at recess or on the weekend, the more they will improve and we can move onto more advanced skills in PE. We hope to provide this goal to make it safer for them to be physically active during recess.
