Thank you for looking at my proposal! I am a third grade teacher in Chicago. The school I work in is comprised largely of low-income families (98% of the students receive free lunch). Up until October our classroom had a (one) working computer. As an educator, I believe that technology is extremely important in the learning process. With a computer, all of my students were able to learn about computer technology that would eventually give them the necessary knowledge to become productive citizens. When our classroom had a working computer, the students were able to play educational games during a learning center time, write stories on the word-processing program, and use an electronic encyclopedia to perform research. I also used the computer to present lessons using United Streaming (a collection of video clips available on line). I would download these clips, depending on the subject being taught, and have the students view the video. Since the computer is no longer available, I'm unable to give my students these learning experiences. My children would be beside themselves if they were to walk into our classroom and see a working computer. The children enjoy the various projects I am able to give them when we have a computer. Therefore, I am asking for a new computer for my classroom.
