In Desperate Need of High Interest, Low Level Books!
Hooray! This project is fully funded
My Students
Imagine having to reread the same book over and over again because the rest of the classroom library is too hard and frustrating to read!
We are a third grade classroom in a public school. We are a Title 1 school that has 85% of the student population receiving free or reduced lunch. Students come from very diverse backgrounds with some challenging situations to go home to every night.
My Project
Reading can be a magical experience, giving children an avenue to visit and live in worlds that are so different from their own. I want to give every child in my class that opportunity, no matter the level they are reading at.
This year I have a higher than normal number of low readers and my classroom library is not equipped with enough interesting books at their level. These materials would help give struggling readers options during our Reader's Workshop.
Giving students options is so important in my classroom. I know from experience that when students get options they are more likely to be invested. Giving my low readers options of books to read will increase their interest and help them become better readers.
