In Desperate Need of Basic Supplies

My students need basic school supplies to have a successful year. We are in desperate need of write and wipe boards, colored pencils, composition books, a new electric pencil sharpener, dry erase markers, and glue sticks. These items are used daily!

My Students

I have eight wonderful students, each one of them has a diagnosis of Autism. They have different abilities and interests yet they all need the same small structured environment where they feel safe and nurtured.

Our school is located in the inner city of Bronx, New York where the poverty level is high.

My students require multiple curriculum modifications and benefit from sensory input. They are provided with occupational, physical and speech-language therapy, enjoy sensory breaks, moving to music, and creating projects. They face challenges everyday and continue to increase progress towards their IEP goals.

My Project

My class is in need of some basic school supplies that promote writing. The Exacto School sharpener would allow students to sharpen various size pencils and crayons while the Staples highlighters, dry erase markers and Lakeshore whiteboards and notebooks will provide opportunities both in centers and whole group learning to practice and increase their writing skills.

My students have various needs yet one common goal; to increase their ability to trace, copy or write letters, numbers, and sentences.

These supplies will be utilized each day throughout the year providing opportunities for many hands-on learning experiences, where they will be able to create, draw and write about stories and daily events.
