My students come from a rural area in southeastern Kentucky, with high unemployment rates, and a large population on government assistance. Over 50% of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch and, as a result, have very limited access to technology.
I love my students, and I want to give them the best opportunities possible, especially when it comes to technology and real-world skills.
I have fought my entire teaching career for more funding, smaller class sizes, better technology and more community involvement. I will keep fighting for these causes until they happen, or until I'm dead (whichever comes first).
My students are a priority in my life, right up there with my own wife and child. I want to see them succeed, but the limitations placed on them by budget cuts and increased population make it a real struggle.
My Project
Donate to purchase an in-class library of novels for my classroom. I have selected classic and contemporary novels, from various genres, both fiction and non-fiction, to give my students access to more reading materials.
Unfortunately, we live in a time where students don't read, particularly for enjoyment.
Students need to have reading materials that meet their interests. Whether it's romance, sci-fi, tragedy, mystery, fantasy, horror, non-fiction, local authors, sports or a novelization of a movie, every student can learn to love reading.
Your donations will be put to good use, and open a whole new world to all my students!
