This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from two areas in our region. We are a unique community in that both rural and urban areas attend our school. We have the largest district in the area. This provides our students with a unique opportunity to learn from one another the differences and value those difference working together in one environment. They learn how perspectives can shape our ideas and how to empower each other to make decisions based on what is best for all, not just a few.
My Project
The high-interest novels will get students talking about reading and create a buzz. They will read in class, write about what they read and talk about what they read. My goal is to return a love for reading and allow students to talk about what they are reading with peers. I would like students to learn how to talk about what they read and ask questions. Those questions will lead to problem-solving among peers. I want them to make connections to today's society. Small groups will allow for a more collaborative journey through the year. Bring the love of reading back into the classroom.
