Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school strives to foster collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and public speaking. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; however, funding stops teachers from getting certain resources that will benefit our students. The students in my class strive for excellence. Also, they love being introduced to new book series and graphic novels.
My class will consist of 25-30 students.
Of those 30, 7-10 of them will either be English learners, receive resource services, speech, or Reading Intervention. I am looking forward to creating a positive reading environment where my students can be actively involved in their reading by choosing "Good Fit" books and partaking in "Book Blurb" Recommendations.
My Project
A wise man once said, "Books fall open, you fall in." It is my goal to open up the world of literature to my students and allow them to explore their imagination. I am looking to fill my classroom library with a variety of genres, topics, illustrators, and authors in hopes to motivate them to pick up something new each time they finish a story. I want to diversify my library and expose my students to new stories and new genres, to come across inspiring quotes that will resonate with them and stay with them long after they finish the story.
For a few specific examples, I am asking for fiction texts such as Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel and nonfiction texts such as TIME For Kids Magazines.
As they turn the pages to these stories, they will enter worlds where their imagination will run wild! From exciting children's mystery novels to colorful graphic novels, there will always be interesting plots "in between the pages" of each story.
