My Students

Our students are amazing. Many come from disadvantaged homes but are working to improve their circumstances by attending a college-preparatory school. Their drive is admirable, and they put up with long days and tons of homework. But they ask for very little other than an opportunity to succeed in whatever way they choose.

In the music classroom, we have students who come from all walks of life working together toward one goal: a performance that not only enhances their understanding of music, but that also enhances the community around them with school pride.

My Project

We have never had technology available to our music students. Now that we're in a new facility, we have more space to rehearse, spread out, and try new things.

Being able to write melodies, explore harmonies, and figure out the ins and outs of music notation are invaluable skills a musician needs.

I hope that by offering them computers that they can use in practice rooms and other spaces in the room with headphones, my students will learn more about how music works.

These Chromebooks will also allow students to use our online sight reading program to practice that skill when they are working on their own in practice rooms getting ready for honor group auditions.
