My school is in a Title I district, meaning 100% of my students qualify for free lunch and often struggle to acquire necessary resources. That being said, my students are ridiculously resilient, passionate and emotionally conscious of others. The vast majority of my students are victims of extreme trauma and were forced to grow up faster than other students their ages in different environments.
Although my students face inequity and environmental chaos on a regular basis, they chose to blossom from it.
Each and every day they make me a better person and together we create a sense of family incomparable to that of other schools. I cannot imagine working anywhere else and being as proud of other scholars, as I am of them.
School culture and student morale directly impacts students academic performance. I currently serve as the freshman class sponsor at my high school. In an effort to increase school spirit, freshmen class leaders have planned a student designed and operated movie event.
Because our students live in a high crime area, safe places to engage in social activities are also of great value.
We have limited theatrical resources and access to accommodating spaces, so our event is to occur in our cafeteria. To properly host this event we need a screen and a projecting speaker. All proceeds from the our movie viewing benefits the Freshman class by funding their class account.
